In June of 2012, the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) will host regional workshops to help teachers better understand the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs) and their connection to the RISE Evaluation and Development System. To find workshop dates in your area and to register, please visit the ICTM website and download this flyer.
A key focus of the workshops will be analyzing student work to understand student proficiency in mathematical practices. To help with this, teachers should bring examples of student work on open-ended items. Teachers can choose from the tasks listed below (two tasks offered for each grade level) and use one of these tasks with students prior to the workshop. This work will then be discussed at the June workshops. To better understand the tasks, please view the brief introductory video that accompanies each task.
To gain a base knowledge of the topics that will be covered at the workshop, please watch the Common Core in Practice webinar.
