The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) requires a sample of 100 schools and 2500 students. The NAEP state assessment in mathematics was administered to public school students at Grades 4 and 8 in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

SAT and ACT Participation

 

Student participation in ACT and SAT varies widely from state to state. In recent years, Indiana student participation in SAT has increased while ACT participation has declined.

 


SAT

The mean grade point average for the Indiana students that took the SAT in 2002 was 3.14 compared to the national average of all students taking the SAT in 2002 of 3.29.

 






ACT


Since ACT Assessment is designed for those students who plan to attend college, the focus is on students who completed the recommended college preparatory courses. The recommended college core courses (as defined by ACT) include:

Social Sciences One Year Credit each for American History, World History American Government One-half Year Credit each for Economics, Geography, Psychology
Natural Sciences One Year Credit Each for General/Physical/Earth Science, Biology Chemistry, Physics

 

Only those students who reported their GPA information are included in the data below.

 

AP Results

 

11,425 Indiana students took 17,914 AP tests in 2002.

 

If a grade of 3 or higher is attained on the AP exam, there are thousands of colleges worldwide that will give students credit or advanced placement for their efforts.
