The
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) requires a sample of 100
schools and 2500 students. The NAEP state assessment in mathematics was administered
to public school students at Grades 4 and 8 in 1992, 1996 and 2000.
| Student participation
in ACT and SAT varies widely from state to state. In recent years, Indiana
student participation in SAT has increased while ACT participation has declined. |

mean grade point average for the Indiana students that took the SAT in 2002
was 3.14 compared to the national average of all students taking the SAT
in 2002 of 3.29. |

ACT
| Since
ACT Assessment is designed for those students who plan to attend college,
the focus is on students who completed the recommended college preparatory
courses. The recommended college core courses (as defined by ACT) include: |
