COMPREHENSIVE STANDARDS DOCUMENT (CSD)
Approved September 21, 1999
PREFACE
One of the IPSB charges to the Comprehensive Standards Advisory Group (CSDAG) has been to compile and streamline single documents for teachers in each identifiable school setting along with corresponding developmental level(s) (see back of preface page, sections I-V) in order to provide teachers and teacher education program planners with a useful, concise, and readable document. This document should detail what teachers and teacher candidates should know and be able to do in each performance area.
The current compilation (The Comprehensive Standards Document or CSD) reflects the CSDAG's attempt to meet this charge.
- Sections I-V of the CSD provide an overview of both the work of the original advisory groups for the given developmental level, as well as an overview of the standards, followed by the standards as they have been currently approved by the Indiana Professional Standards Board (including all performances, knowledge, and dispositions). This information can be found in Part I of each section. Sections I-V also detail the developmentally appropriate content drawn for each developmental level. This information can be found in Part II of each section (Note: For Early Adolescence Generalist Content [section IV] and Adolescence and Young Adulthood [section V], the reader is referred to the subject area standards).
The CSDAG was also charged with several other tasks relating to current issues in education. The inclusion of pertinent themes, the alignment of the IPSB School Setting Standards across developmental levels, and the alignment of the IPSB Standards with other standards currently accepted within the field of education, are considered by the Board to be of great importance. The CSDAG was given the task of studying and reporting on these issues.
- Section VI of the CSD, Identification of Themes Throughout the Standards, reflects additional study undertaken by the CSDAG as part of its complete charge (see Introduction, p.VI.3 for a complete explanation).
- Section VII of the CSD, Analysis of Unifying Themes, reflects additional study undertaken by the CSDAG as part of its complete charge (see Introduction, p.VII.3 for a complete explanation).
- Section VIII of the CSD, Alignment of Standards Among National Professional Education Organizations, Specialty Groups, and Indiana Department of Education K-12 Proficiencies, reflects additional study undertaken by the CSDAG as part of its complete charge (see Introduction, p.VIII.3 for a complete explanation).
- Section IX of the CSD is a glossary of terms used throughout the entire document. Where different advisory groups used slightly different definitions for the same or similar terms, more than one definition has been included.
