Beginning Teacher Internship Program

As part of the Division of Professional Standards overall process to redesign its teacher preparation and licensing system, the BTIP is scheduled to be "phased out" and replaced with the Indiana Mentoring and Assessment Program (IMAP) over the next few years. The first group of beginning teachers began the program in the fall of 2003. Rules 46/47 licenses with an internship requirement may not be issued after July 1, 2006.

The new program is organized around Division of Professional Standards standards-based portfolio assessments with related building/district level support, and it is linked to the Board's standards and recently adopted staged licensure framework. Our developmental activities have focused on creating the capacity to implement a statewide portfolio assessment system in the content areas of elementary education, special education, English/language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.
