Assessment, Induction, and Continuing Education

As part of the overall process to redesign its teacher preparation and licensing system, the Beginning Teacher Internship Program (BTIP) is scheduled to be "phased out" and replaced with the Indiana Mentoring and Assessment Program (IMAP) over the next few years. Enrollment requirements are the same for both programs. IMAP is organized around DPS standards-based portfolio assessments with related building/district level support, and it is linked to the standards and recently adopted staged licensure framework. Developmental activities have focused on creating the capacity to implement a statewide portfolio assessment system in the content areas of elementary education, special education, English/language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. During the 1996-2002 school years, the DPS field-tested the IMAP in up to six regions of the state.
