SUBJECT:	Board Relations Committee - Minutes of November 18, 1999, Meeting

Board Relations Committee members present: Lewis Ciminillo, David Cooper, Lee Slavinskas, Joe Weaver, and Tom Hansen.

Board Relations Committee members unable to attend: Tina Dent.

Others in attendance: Dan Miller.

The Board Relations Committee of the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB) was convened on November 18, 1999, at 8:40 a.m. in Training Room 12, Conference Center, Indiana Government Center South, Indianapolis, by Mr. Slavinskas.

I. Consultations with representatives of education stakeholder groups:

None at this time.

II. Materials reviewed as related to the Board Relations Committee's charge:

Draft letter to legislators regarding Fordham Foundation's report on teacher quality

III. Issues/Questions examined as related to the Board Relations Committee's charge:

The Committee indicated its preference to meet at 8 a.m. on days following a Board meeting.

The Committee reviewed and suggested changes to a draft letter to members of the Indiana General Assembly regarding a recent report on teacher quality by the Fordham Foundation.

The Committee discussed strategies related to legislative changes to enact the Board's planned induction program for beginning teacher effective July 2001.

The Committee discussed procedures for reviewing issues which arise from stakeholders and other external groups.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
