Subject: University of Notre Dame - Accreditation at the Initial Level
During July 17 - 21, 1999, an Indiana Board of Examiners (BOE) team visited the University of Notre Dame. The purpose of this visit was to determine the extent to which the professional education unit met state standards at the initial level. The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) standards are used whether or not an institution seeks national accreditation. A copy of the report was sent to Dr. Joyce Johnstone, Associate Director of Institute for Educational Initiatives.
On November 18, 1999, the Teacher Education Committee (TEC) of the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB) met to review the BOE report and the Institutional Rejoinder. A recommendation for accreditation at the initial level is being submitted to the IPSB for consideration. The IPSB Accreditation Action Recommendation and the University of Notre Dame Program Listing are enclosed.
TEC Recommendation:
The TEC recommends that the IPSB grant accreditation at the initial level to the professional education unit at the University of Notre Dame. The next onsite review will take place in summer 2004.
