To: Members, Indiana Professional Standards Board
(IPSB)
From: Joseph Weaver, Chair
IPSB Executive Committee
Date: June 21, 2000
Subject: Unit Assessment System Submission Action
As you are aware , the IPSB has approved time lines for continued implementation
of its new performance-based system of preparation and licensure for Indiana
education professionals. Indiana institutions engaged in teacher preparation
have been developing Unit Assessment Systems (UASs) to align with the statewide
performance-based system. Assistance by the IPSB is offered on a continuing
basis and includes institutional sessions, consultant review of UAS annual
progress reports and feedback to institutions, dissemination of documents,
web site information, licensing advisor workshops, and presentations at various
statewide meetings, including those of the Indiana Association for Colleges
of Teacher Education (IACTE). By June 30, 2002, each institution is to have
submitted its UAS to the IPSB.
The IPSB Teacher Education Committee (TEC) will be receiving the UASs and following
evaluation procedures in making recommendations to the Board. The TEC has asked
the Executive Committee for official information to share with institutions
now, regarding what Board action will occur if a unit fails to submit its UAS
by June 30, 2002. The IPSB Executive Committee deems it appropriate to recommend
to the Board that an institution failing to submit its UAS by the 2002 deadline,
shall be notified of Board action to immediately institute procedures for revoking
accreditation, with a press release to follow.
Executive Committee Recommendation:
The Executive Committee recommends that the Board take immediate action to
institute procedures for the revocation of accreditation, with a press release
to follow, for any teacher preparation institution in Indiana that fails to
submit its UAS to the IPSB for approval by June 30, 2002.
