| SUBJECT: |
How the IPSB Accomplishes Its Tasks: Induction and Continuing
Education |
This discussion item is a continuation of the series: "How the IPSB
Accomplishes Its Tasks." The topic for this month is the Division of
Induction and Continuing Education (DICE). The Division of Induction and
Continuing Education has primary responsibility for operational and developmental
activities related to IPSB programs for beginning teachers and experienced
teachers renewing their licenses. These programs include the Beginning Teacher
Internship Program (BTIP), the Beginning Teacher Induction Performance Assessment
Program (BTIPAP), Certification Renewal Unit (CRU) programs, and developmental
activities related to future teacher relicensing based on a Professional
Growth Plan (PGP).
The discussion will be organized around these four programs plus
an introduction of division staff members, with each of us sharing how what
we do contributes to the agency's operations. A presentation(PowerPoint | PDF) will
accompany the discussion. For each program noted above, we will highlight
topics like goals, procedures, historical data, successes & concerns,
next steps, transition timelines, and Board feedback to the staff. The induction
portion of the presentation will include a discussion of expanding implementation
of the 2000-01 induction assessment process. The CRU portion of the presentation
will include a discussion of the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS) subsidy program.
One of the most valuable features of this discussion will be the Board feedback
to staff. To help organize these views, a set of feedback forms is provided
to each Board member. We ask the Board to offer written feedback and share
highlights of this feedback during the discussion. Information on what the
Board considers to be the pluses, minuses, questions, and issues for each
program will be extremely valuable for the staff to organize its future work.
