The Continuing Education Committee (CEC) of the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB) was convened on October 20, 2000, at 8:30 a.m. in the 9th Floor Executive Committee Room, Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA), by Ms. Briganti, Chair. The minutes of the September 21, 2000, meeting were approved.

I. Consultations with representatives of education stakeholders groups: none.

II. Materials reviewed as related to the CEC=s charge:

A. Teacher License Renewal Pilot Project Applications Summary as of: 10/20/00

B. Teacher License Renewal Pilot: Teacher Professional Growth Plan Development and Reporting Manual – Pilot Draft Version 1.1

III. Issues/Questions examined as related to the CEC's charge:

A. Backmapping Pilot Project Applications Update.

The committee reviewed the summary of applications received to date. One hundred twenty applications were received from 61 corporations or other sites throughout the state. The applications represented all teaching levels from elementary to high schools. Some applicants also held school services or administrative licenses. Based on a recruitment target of up to 600 participants, the committee decided to accept all applicants up to that limit, even if more than two applications are received from one corporation.

B. Renewal of More Than One License.

The committee also decided to recommend to the Board that all active renewable licenses be renewed when a participant meets the pilot project requirement for renewing one license– documenting that 90 Professional Growth Experience points could have been earned during the backmapping period. This is consistent with current license renewal practices of renewing all active licenses when sufficient general education credit hours or Certification Renewal Units are earned.

C. Preparations for November Orientation Sessions.

The committee reviewed the current drafts of materials and made revisions as deemed necessary. Each team of facilitators will receive overheads and sets of materials for each participant at the November orientation sessions. Assigned committee members will notify Richard Frisbie of orientation meeting locations by November 1.

The meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2000. The minutes of this meeting were approved via e-mail correspondence. The next CEC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) Executive Committee Room on the 9th floor from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The address is 150 West Market Street, Suite 900, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
