SUBJECT: License Renewal Pilot Project Renewal of All Active Licenses
At its October 20, 2000, meeting, the Continuing Education Committee reviewed the summary of applications for its license renewal pilot project received to date. Of the one hundred twenty applicants, about 8 (7%) also held school services or administrative licenses. Under current license renewal practices, an educator can renew more than one active license when the semester hours and/or Certification Renewal Units (CRUs) earned apply to each license.
The pilot will expand upon the types of allowable experiences that may be used to renew a license. For example, a teacher will be required to document that 90 Professional Growth Experience (PGE) points could have been earned during the backmapping period. The PGEs may include earning college credits, CRUs, or other specified professional experiences, such as mentoring a beginning teacher or leading a school improvement effort.
Because the CEC wishes to test how well the teacher license renewal pilot project design works for educators holding multiple licenses, it wants to include such participants in the pilot. In order to encourage educators with multiple licenses to participate in the pilot, it also wishes to allow them to renew each license held.
As noted above, this recommendation is consistent with current IPSB practices for renewing multiple active licenses. It also will give other IPSB committees useful information on how to design school services or administrator license renewal procedures.
CEC Recommendation:
Upon successfully meeting all IPSB teacher license renewal pilot project requirements, participants may renew all of their currently active licenses.
