- RE: Consideration of Proposed Indiana Counseling Association and
- Indiana School Counselor Association External Committee for School Counseling
- To: Members, Indiana Professional Standards Board
On May 24, 2000, the Executive Committee of the Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB) reviewed a letter from the Indiana Counseling Association and Indiana School Counselor Association requesting permission to form an external committee in accordance with the IPSB's policies for standing external committees. The Executive committee voted unanimously to forward this proposal to the full Board for consideration at its September 2000 meeting.
The External Committee for School Counseling will use IPSB standards, including the Standards for School Services, approved by the IPSB on May 20, 1998, as a foundation of its charge. The charge of the committee is as follows:
- Recommendation of the type of license for school counseling including school settings and pre-requisites.
- Recommendation of an assessment continuum for licensure including preservice, induction, and continuing education.
- Determining the need for a pilot program, and developing the pilot program if necessary.
- Other related activity to school counseling.
Executive Committee Recommendation:
The Executive Committee recommends that the Indiana Professional Standards Board approve the formation and charge of an External Committee for School Counselors, jointly sponsored by the Indiana Counseling Association and Indiana School Counselor Association.
