RE:                  Qualifying Scores for Praxis II Specialty Area Tests

 

During the fall of 1999, Standard Setting Studies were conducted to propose qualifying scores for 12 Praxis II Specialty Areas. Based on studies conducted by the Educational Testing Service, using national data and information obtained from representatives of other states, the IPSB heard a presentation on the proposed scores in January 2000. In March 2000, the board approved the proposed scores for the purposes of drafting a rule.

On June 21, 2000, the IPSB approved setting the proposed rule for public hearing (Please see attachments). Also presented at that time was the proposal amending 515 IAC 1-4-1 and 1-4-2 to insert acceptable scores for the 12 tests. The public hearing on the proposed qualifying scores and rule changes is scheduled for 1:00 PM on September 20, 2000.

Recommendation:

1)     The staff recommends that the board adopt the proposed rule changes which amend 515 IAC 1-4-1 and 1-4-2 (Attachment A).
2)     The staff recommends that the Board approve the qualifying score changes for the 12 Praxis II Specialty Area Tests for implementation beginning in the fall of 2001.
