SEA 451 Communication Disorders Emergency Permits

Per SEA 451, after July 1, 2007 school corporations may apply for an original Emergency Permit (EP) for a person who has the Bachelor's degree and gets the signature of the Licensing Advisor from one of the four approved programs for Communication Disorders on the Approved Program Confirmation Form.

2. After July 1, 2007, persons who might have an EP, and whom the school corporation wishes to apply a renewal, will be eligible for the renewal if:

A. they have completed six semester hours of course work in an approved-program for Communication Disorders between August 2005 and August 2007.

B. they have tried but failed to complete the six hours of renewal work -- this will be an "extension." In this case, the LA will need to confirm the absence of suitable course work.

3. Persons who now have the valid IPLA license for Speech Pathologist, and the Master's degree in Speech Pathology from an ASHA-accredited institution, will continue to be eligible for the Rules 2002 Proficient Practitioner license for Communication Disorders.
