How do I renew my substitute permit?

serve as a substitute. All substitute permits, whether a renewal or
original, are now recommended through the employing school corporation. |

The Division of Professional Standards
(DPS) requires an original limited criminal history report from
Indiana State Police. You do not need to send fingerprints. The criminal
history report is valid for one year by Indiana State law. |

Yes, the school districts are required to have the
limited criminal history check for their employees, just as the DPS
is required to have it before certifying a substitute teacher. |

No, the substitute permit allows the holder to
serve only as a substitute teacher. |

for substitute certificate is received by the DPS, then no additional

What materials are required to obtain an Indiana Substitute
Teaching Certificate? |

A $15.00 money order or cashier's check payable
to the State of Indiana (This office will not accept cash or personal
checks), a substitute application from the school corporation ( including
the superintendents signature), and an original criminal history report
from Indiana State Police. |
