LICENSING

* Teacher candidates completing approved programs for Communication Disorders (formerly Speech, Language and Hearing Clinician) cannot obtain an Indiana teaching license from the DPS unless and until they have received the appropriate license from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA). In addition, individuals with SLP licenses issued under Rules 46-47 cannot renew their school setting license without the appropriate license from the PLA. And finally, the DPS is no longer issuing Emergency and/or Reciprocal Permits for the content area of Communication Disorders effective this school year (2006-2007) and until further notice. Please review the instructions as posted to our website under Special Topics: http://www.doe.in.gov/dps/pdf/CDwebinfo.pdf . As you can see, there should be no instances in which teacher candidates are recommended for an Initial Practitioner License, Emergency Permit or Reciprocal Permit for Communication Disorders; therefore, if you have questions about license recommendation in these cases, please contact the DPS for assistance.
