Evaluation of Additions to Rules 46-47 License

The DPS is initiating a procedure to permit evaluations for additions to licenses issued under previous rules. Some teacher training units prefer not to evaluate in-state program-completers for additions to licenses issued under Rules 46-47 and previous rules.

When a teacher seeking an addition to her/his license (issued under basis of Rules 46-47 or previous rules), is unable to locate a teacher training unit able to assist, this teacher may apply directly to the DPS for this addition.  To do so, the teacher must assemble the following application materials and send these to Ray Graves, Assistant Director - Licensing:

    * completed application - Form 9331
    * valid Limited Criminal History Report
    * official transcripts from all universities attended
    * IN license to which the teacher seeks to add new content areas
    * letter of support for the DPS evaluation by the Licensing Advisor at the university which cannot assist with the addition
    * $35 Money Order - payable to the State of Indiana

Dr. Graves will conduct the evaluation for the addition and will notify the teacher of the outcome of the evaluation.  If you have questions, contact Dr. Graves at rgraves@doe.in.gov.

Streamlined Portfolio and Portfolio Manuals for Teachers Required to Complete Portfolio in the 2007-2008 School Year

Teachers required to complete their portfolio during the 2007-2008 school year will be asked to complete a streamlined version of the portfolio.  This would include teachers who hold a Rules 2002 license and who need to submit a portfolio at the end of their second year, May, 2008.  The manuals for the portfolios have been streamlined.  The new manuals will be posted in a more user friendly format after August 15, 2007.  Please be sure that all new submissions are completed following the format of these new manuals.  Make sure that second year candidates in school year 2007-2008 are using the manuals dated 2007-2008.  These manuals will be posted in late summer on our website along with specific dates for enrollment and submission.  Please contact Debby Williams, dwilliam@doe.in.gov, for more clarification.

General Assembly

There are several bills that may be passed during this session of the Indiana General Assembly that may impact the Division of Professional Standards.  Examples would be SB 056 and HB 1116.  At this time, it is premature to determine whether these will become law.  We will know more after the session is over (the session is scheduled to end next week).  Once we have a good handle on the bills that will pass, we will let you know and tell you (if applicable) the impact this will have on the work we do.
