Friday Update: February 14, 2003

Annual Report

Attached to this Update is the 2002 Annual Report of the IPSB. Since June 2002, we have used the Friday Update to deliver the most up-to-date information on Board activities and deadlines to all stakeholders in a timely manner. The Annual Report brings this information and more together to provide a comprehensive review of the work of the Board.

We hope you find the format readable and information useful. If you have comments on the 2002 report or suggestions for the 2003 report, please contact mtheobald@doe.in.gov so we can use them in our continuous improvement effort on communication.

Rules 2002

As we continue the promulgation process for the Rules 2002 performance-based system of preparing and licensing educators, we will provide occasional reminders of how the new system differs from the previous rules. On the new licensing framework:

  • Speech communication is not a separate licensing area. Speech communication is included in the language arts.
  • Physical science is not the general chemistry, earth space science, and physics of previous licensing patterns. Rules 2002 physical science graduates must be able to pass both the chemistry and physics PRAXIS II tests.
  • Building level administrator is a K-12 license that allows the holder to serve as a principal in elementary, intermediate, middle, junior, and high schools.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee will meet at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 19 in the large conference room of the IPSB offices. Among the agenda items, Cheryl Orr from the Commission for Higher Education will present the draft P-16 Plan for Improving Student Preparation for College Success. The plan is available at http://www.edroundtable.state.in.us/Roundtable_files/2002%20RT%20Presentations/Draft%20P-16%20Plan%2011-12-02.pdf
