Indiana continues gains in Advanced Placement results
Indiana's 2007 statewide Advanced Placement (AP) results indicate that more Hoosier high school students are enrolling in AP courses and passing the exams necessary to earn college credit. In 2007, Indiana out-paced the nation in growth on the measures of number of test takers, number of AP exams taken and the number of passing scores of 3 or higher.
Financial deadline approaching fast
Learn More Indiana is reminding every family with a college-bound student to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To be considered for the most financial aid options, the U.S. Department of Education must receive the FAFSA no later than March 10.
Reed encourages schools to reduce trash, waste
Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Suellen Reed encouraged schools to focus on reducing waste in February as part of the Indiana Department of Education’s year-long initiative “Learn Green, Live Green.”
Survey finds school counselors need more time with students
A recent survey released by the Indiana Department of Education for National School Counseling Week (February 4-8) found that 88 percent of Indiana school counselors feel they are effective in helping students despite a general consensus that they need more time to work with students one-on-one.
Indiana's first International Education Summit assembles leaders to strengthen state's global economic future
Today, Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Suellen Reed assembled more than 250 education, business, government and community leaders from across the globe for the state’s first-ever International Education Summit. Co-hosted by Eli Lilly and Company, the summit is designed to position Indiana as a leader in educating a globally-aware and economically competitive workforce.

Reed announces Four Star Schools
Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed announced today that 177 Hoosier public schools were honored with Four Star School Awards for the 2006-2007 school year. The award is the highest state distinction and is based on student achievement on ISTEP+ assessments and overall attendance rates.
National Association of Title I Directors honors Distinguished Title I schools
The National Association of State Title I Directors (NASTID) announces its annual Distinguished Title I School Recognition Program winners at its 2008 conference, “Changing Performance,” January 31 – February 3, 2008 in Nashville, TN. These highlighted schools have demonstrated significant sustained academic improvement in spite of having a 35 percent or higher poverty rate. Their profiles are shared in an online publication on the NASTID website: “Changing Performance, 2008 National Title I Conference Distinguished Schools.”
