2012 Regional eLearning Conferences
The Indiana Department of Education's (IDOE) Office of eLearning believes strongly in providing technology-rich professional development for our Indiana educators and administrators that focuses on student-centered teaching and learning. To ensure all educators have the opportunity to engage in this type of professional learning, we are supporting Summer eLearning Regional Conferences all around the state with a competitive grant of up to $15,000 provided by David C. Ford funds. In the coming weeks, this page will include information on how to register for these exciting events. The following fifteen districts received the grant and offered the described professional development during the summer of 2012.
Kokomo Center Schools
This summer, Kokomo Center Schools will host a summer professional development conference for its teachers called “Back to the Future 2012.” Teacher leaders/trainers and administrators are excited to offer a wide variety of sessions in the following areas: International Baccalaureate program, Integrated Arts program, Universal Design for Differentiated Instruction, 1:1 Technology program, Literacy, Curriculum Development and a myriad of technology “know how” sessions. Teachers who attend will have time to collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and differentiation, learn about the latest and greatest technological innovations for the classroom and see best practices in action. Center Grove Community Schools
Center Grove Schools will partner with Apple to host a one-day "iPossibilities" conference on Monday, June 11, 2012. The main goal of this event will be to disseminate the "lessons learned" at the completion of the district's IDOE Innovation grant project entitled, "iPossibilities: Innovative Differentiation for the Diverse Learner in the 21st Century." Center Grove teachers and administrators and Apple representatives will offer sessions within the following strands: iPad 101, ENL, Parents and iPads, Early Learners, Technical, Special Education, and Tools and Productivity. Monroe County Community School Corporation
The Monroe County Community School Corporation and neighboring Richland-Bean Blossom Community Schools will join forces to start an annual digital learning event called the iTeach Academy. This Academy is designed to support the development of teacher skills in the area of digital media and digital learning in the 21st century classroom. The purpose of this three-day event for teachers of Johnson County and surrounding areas is to allow peers to share their knowledge and plant the seeds of learning and educutional evolution. The training sessions will be held from June 12th through June 15th and hosted at FCHS. Each day will consist of a morning session from 8:00-11:00 and an afternoon session from 1:00-4:00. We have nine school districts participating in this event so please sign up for classes ASAP! The iPad courses offered on Wednesday 6/13/2012 can only house 24 participants while all other courses have room for 30 participants.
North Daviess Community Schools
The expo will feature Dr. David Thornburg and practicing teachers and administrators highlighting eLearning and free web tools to enhance learning. Day two of the expo will have practicing teachers working together to create lessons using 21st century tools and posting those lessons in the Indiana Project Library in the Learning Connection. Crothersville Community Schools
The conference will feature Angela Maiers, teachers and administrators highlighting eLearning and free web tools to enhance learning. Partnering with Curriculum Loft and Five-Star Technology Solutions, opportunities for teachers to be trained by leading instructional coaches and for administrators to be advised on strategies will be made available. Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation
The eRevolution Regional eLearning conference features internationally-recognized keynote speakers, spotlight sessions from leaders in educational technology, concurrent sessions that are led by EVSC teacher-leaders and other experienced classroom practitioners, and hands-on workshops for deeper exploration of topics related to 21st Century teaching and learning in media-rich classrooms. The Center for Technology
Teaching in a Virtual School - The Center for Technology in Education (CTE), in partnership with the Ball State Indianapolis Center and the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC), invites you to an exciting conference about teaching and learning in virtual schools. Students, teachers and administrators from the Hoosier Academies and other Indiana virtual schools (TBD) will discuss the opportunities and challenges of teaching and learning in online environments. Topics include online pedagogies, design and use of digital content, facilitating interactivity, assessment, and collaborative work in communities of learning. Richmond Community Schools
Disruptive innovation is changing the way we conduct business and our lives. We've also seen disruptive technologies change the way schools conduct learning. This professional learning event will address the concept of disruptive innovation, how that innovation can be recognized, and how to react to it to become better at what we do--educate our students for their futures. A few key concepts in this area include online learning shifts, ramification technologies and their role in schools, and the promise of artificial intelligence technology making education truly student-centric (modular, adaptable, etc.). Join a keynote with author Lee Crockett and workshops hosted by the 21st Century Fluency Project and EdTechZone at SMCSC's 2012 Regional eLearning Conference on July 30, 2012. Free and open to teachers from all school districts, this one-day event follows the book Literacy is Not Enough and will focus on cultivating 21st century fluencies in the learning environment to build critical thinking and reasoning skills demanded of our students by our connected world. For teachers who have moved beyond the question why does education need to change and on to asking how do I make these changes, the workshops will be fun, loaded and messy - like learning should be! East Noble School Corporation
Knight-Time Technology - Teachers will use their devices (laptops, iPads and iPods) as they are learning. All the sessions will be collaborative with practice embedded within them. Teachers will walk away with activities/PBL units to use in their classrooms along with the confidence to use these things with their students. Plymouth Community School Corporation
The Plymouth Community School Corporation presents eQuip 2012 - Leveraging Technology In Our Classrooms on August 8, 2012. Keynote speaker, Brian Mull, Director of Innovation at November Learning, will start the day by introducing participants to a toolset that will get students moving in the direction of empowered, purposeful learning. Examples include tutorial creators, student scribes, curriculum reviewers and more.
Other sessions throughout the day will build on this theme by offering sessions on web critical thinking, tools of engagement, flip instruction, My Big Campus student management system, Mac apps for podcasting, writing and reading strategies and examples of student projects throughout the day. North Spencer County School Corporation
Dream, design and create resources for your classroom this summer in “Technology Boot Camp.” This two-day workshop will be held August 13-14, 2012, at Heritage Hills High School. It will focus on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the essential underpinnings of technology for students to demonstrate what they know and can do in all subject areas. A variety of teaching methods will include direct instruction with immediate application, and participants will create artifacts to demonstrate how they will apply these skills in the classroom. There will be work in flexible groups, as well as work with online communities of practice, and each student will create a personal learning network. The content of the course is differentiated and is research-based. During the course, we will cover new and emerging technology trends, web 2.0 tools, and the creation of multimedia to meet the needs of all learners. This conference's instructor has been leading technology camps for twelve years. The goal is to change instructional practice, and that takes focused ongoing professional development. Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District
Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District will be hosting a professional development conference for any Indiana K-12 educator. The purpose of this conference is to help educators find the appropriate 21st century web-based tool set to use in their 21st century classroom. Specialized tracks will be offered at this conference including a focus on the iPad and what to do with it in a special education classroom. The conference will be held August 13-15 at Garrett Middle School in Garrett, Indiana. Participants must have at least one mobile device (e.g. laptop, iPad, tablet, etc.).
