| Randolph Central is
partnering with three other school corporations in our
county (Randolph Eastern, Monroe Central, and Union),
Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, and the Indiana
Youth Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana, to provide high
quality professional development for providing best practices
in the teaching of algebra readiness skills in kindergarten
through ninth-grade classrooms. |
$500,145 will be
shared with four school corporations over a three-year
period for focused professional development in the
area of algebra readiness for kindergarten through
ninth-grade teachers. |
Project S.H.A.R.E. is a joint initiative
of four school corporations to train teacher leadership
teams for outreach training of math teachers in each
district. Teacher leadership teams will be trained
by quality instructors from Ball State University in
the areas of algebra content, pedagogy, and assessments. In
turn, the Teacher Leadership Team, from each school
corporation, will train the remaining math teachers
during scheduled release time throughout the school
year. At the same time, each district will be
provided with a subscription to the National Council
of Teachers of Mathematics to enhance their professional
conversation and growth during the process. The
administrators associated with each of these four school
corporations will be provided intense training from
Ball State University for “academic walk-throughs” to
provide coaching and guidance for teachers who are
implementing best practices in math instruction throughout
the three-year period and beyond. The Indiana
Youth Institute will be our professional reviewer of
the grant activities during the grant cycle. |
- All K-9 math teachers will enhance their content
knowledge, instructional strategies, and assessments
and evaluations to improve the student achievement
of algebra goals in each of the four districts by the
2009-2010 school year.
- Student achievement of algebra skills is improved
as teachers demonstrate professional growth in the
algebra content knowledge, instruction, and students’ time-on-task
through the professional growth process.
- Graduating
students from all four high schools will be better
prepared for mathematics at the undergraduate level
and for the ever-changing workforce and global economy.
