DATE: September 7, 2005
VINCENNES, IND. - Vincennes University has announced that it will
accept
up
to 20 students who have had their college education disrupted due
to
Hurricane Katrina. VU will provide full tuition and room expenses.
VU's
food service contractor (Sodexho, Inc.) will also provide 19
meals-per-week
food plans to up to 20 such students.
Information about the availability of the student assistance will
be
provided on various Web sites specifically established to list
assistance
being offered by colleges and universities throughout the nation.
"VU is joining with other academic institutions to do what
we can to
help
students rebuild their lives after the massive devastation caused
by
Katrina. Our faculty and staff are prepared to welcome students
from
the
affected region. Due to the full range of student services we offer,
such
as free counseling and tutoring, VU is well prepared to help these
students
adjust and succeed," said VU President Dick Helton.
In addition to assistance from VU and Sodexho, Inc., VU students
are
also
doing their part to help victims of Hurricane Katrina by already
raising
$1,800 for relief efforts.
To be eligible for the assistance, students must show that their
schools
have been closed at least for the Fall semester, provide some
documentation
that they were enrolled for Fall 2005, and accept responsibility
for
books
and miscellaneous expenses.
