Indianapolis Public Schools Board Member Districts

Pursuant to its responsibility under Indiana Code 20-25-3-4(f), the State Board is currently accepting proposals for reconfiguring IPS board member district boundaries to comply with the statutory requirements.  For information on the requirements and deadline for submission, please contact Christopher Greisl at cgreisl@doe.in.gov.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Established by the General Assembly, the State Board of Education oversees state education policymaking. The Superintendent of Public Instruction is a voting member and chairs the Board. Ten members are appointed by the Governor, with one member from each of the nine congressional districts and one member at-large. No more than six of the members may be from the same political party, and four of the members must be licensed educators currently employed in an Indiana school.

The State Board has a number of responsibilities, including:

  • Authorizing the distribution of state education funds to local schools;
  • Adopting rules to implement various programs and requirements;
  • Determining a school's P.L. 221 performance and improvement category designation;
  • Accrediting public and nonpublic schools; and
  • Implementing interventions to improve school performance.

The State Board generally meets the first Wednesday of every month. Please see the calendar above for details of upcoming meetings.
