Educator Outreach and Recognition

Honoring Educators

Finding, developing and retaining effective educators is more essential today than ever. To promote outstanding efforts in Indiana classrooms and schools, the state annually honors educators through the Indiana Teacher of the Year program and the Milken Educator Award. All communities are encouraged to recommend deserving local educators for these prestigious honors.

Indiana Education Reform Cabinet

The IERC was created to provide classroom teachers a recognized forum for asking questions and providing thoughtful feedback on the state’s newest education initiatives. Meetings will cover topics such as Indiana’s Growth Model, Rule Revisions for Educator Preparation and Accountability (REPA), Common Core State Standards, the Learning Connection, teacher and principal evaluation processes, and legislative efforts.

Cabinet members commit to two-year terms and will meet five times per year. Members will also host regional meetings with teachers to discuss education reform initiatives and ideas. Saturday’s meeting covered the Indiana Growth Model and included a question and answer session with Dr. Bennett and Indiana Department of Education staff members.

The Educator Learning Link (TELL) Ambassador Program

The Educator Learning Link (TELL) Ambassador Program seeks to enlist a teacher representative from every school building in the state of Indiana who is asked to share important information about current state initiatives with their colleagues. TELL Ambassadors are encouraged to share their colleagues’ questions or concerns with designated IDOE representatives so teachers in the field can receive direct and timely responses from the Department. Anyone interested in becoming a TELL Ambassador may contact Tosha Salyers at tsalyers@doe.in.gov.
