Teachers Incentive Fund and TAP

The Teacher Incentive Fund is a five year federal grant program that supports the development and implementation of performance-based compensation systems.  IDOE received $47 million to establish the TAP system across the state. IDOE partners with the Center for Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis to assist in the implementation of TAP in 44 Indiana schools.  View the list of Indiana's Participating TIF Schools.

TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement was created by the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching.  TAP is constructed of four interrelated components:

 

TAP model provides a comprehensive school reform package which allows for teachers to improve their instruction while also improving the academic performance of their students.  Each element contributes to the success of TAP teachers.

  • Multiple career paths gives educators the opportunity to serve as career, mentor or master teachers.
  • Ongoing Applied Professional Growth provides weekly cluster meetings where teachers receive targeted professional development.  
  • Instructionally Focused Accountability allows for comprehensive evaluations of teachers that provide feedback on areas of improvement.  
  • Performance-Based Compensation ensures effective teachers are rewarded for their success.
