Alternate Certification Programs and Teaching Fellowships

• Alternate Pathways
  We encourage individuals with bachelor’s degrees in disciplines other than education to consider becoming an educator in Indiana. Your knowledge and experience will be valuable in Indiana classrooms.

• Troops to Teachers
  Troops to Teachers provides counseling and referral services to military personnel interested in beginning a second career in public education as a teacher.

Teaching Fellowships

• Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship
• The Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship seeks to attract talented, committed individuals with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to teach in high-need Indiana secondary schools. This program is offered at Ball State University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Purdue University, and the University of Indianapolis.
• The Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color
• The goal of the Woodrow Wilson-Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowships for Aspiring Teachers of Color is to help recruit, support, and retain individuals of color as K-12 public school teachers in the United States. This program is offered at the University of Indianapolis.
• Teach for America
• Teach for America recruits outstanding recent college graduates from all backgrounds and career interests to commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools.

• Indianapolis Teaching Fellows
• Indianapolis Teaching Fellows recruits high quality individuals to teach in critical shortage subject areas in Indianapolis Public Schools.

Minority Teacher Recruitment

In collaboration with several local organizations, the IDOE is committed to addressing the shortage of minorities entering the teaching profession in Indiana.

• Teach Indiana Task Force:
• The Teach Indiana task force is committed to increasing the diversity of Indiana’s teaching force. This collaborative effort between the Indiana Department of Education, several higher education institutions, school corporations, and nonprofit organizations, focuses on strategies to successfully recruit and retain quality educators from underrepresented populations into the education profession.
• Marion County Coordinators of Integrated Education (MCCIE)
• The MCCIE annually hosts the Teachers of Color Career Fair. This annual recruitment fair is one strategy the MCCIE uses to help schools identify and attract teachers of color. Participating school districts include the Metropolitan School Districts of Decatur, Lawrence, Perry, Warren, Washington, and Wayne Townships, as well as Franklin Township Community Schools, Indianapolis Public Schools, School Town of Speedway, Brownsburg Community School Corporation, and Avon Community School Corporation.
