Below are a number of resources that are available to high school English teachers that will be valuable for those in the Indiana ACCESS 1:1 program.

English Lessons

  • Technology-rich lessons for high school English classes, based on Indiana’s academic standards, are shared by teachers in the Indiana ACCESS program.

Writing Resources

  • H. S. Writing Resources, Indiana Department of Education (IDOE)
    This site begins with a description of “good writing instruction” followed by links to the Academic Standards, numerous websites, writing tools, helpful strategies and books; and ends with ways to productively use the computer in the English classroom.

Indiana Online Writing Project

  • Indiana Online Writing Project, Indiana Department of Education – Orientation Sessions in 2006-07
    Available for any high school English teacher whose school has subscribed to use the Criterion online writing tool to learn how to utilize this tool to improve student writing. To participate, contact Karen Bennett at <kbennett@doe.in.gov> or 317-232-9181.
  • Indiana Online Writing Project’s Discussion Group (on Moodle)—
    Share instructional strategies and lesson ideas with other teachers who are using online writing evaluation tools. Contact Karen Bennett for more information at <kbennett@doe.in.gov>.
  • Indiana Online Writing Project Fall Conference - October 24 at Warren Central High, Indianapolis—
    Provides a chance for teachers to share best practices and challenges incorporating online writing tools. To register, contact Karen Bennett at <kbennett@doe.in.gov> or 317-232-9181. (The spring conference will be held in Indianapolis on Friday, April 20.) 

Writing Conferences

  • Indiana Writing Summit: The Neglected R – Conference Materials Now Available—
    Stakeholders from a variety of educational organizations met August 7 to discuss the need to improve student writing; documents and information on programs and resources are posted at The Writing Site.
  • Indiana Teachers of Writing Conference - Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, Indianapolis—
    This annual conference offers “provocative and informative sessions on key issues of writing theory and practice.” Learn more at <http://itwwp.iupui.edu>.
