Teddy Bear

Time Allowance: Depends on the number of participants
Equipment Needed: Large stuffed teddy bear, chairs arranged in circle.

Steps:

1. Ask participants to think of an instance when they experienced frustration in trying to communicate with another person or persons.

2. Participants may speak only when holding the teddy bear and must continue to speak until another person indicates they wish to speak. Participants wishing to speak must indicate so by non-verbally signaling that he or she wants the teddy bear.

3. Facilitator begins activity by speaking first, modeling the activity, or by asking for a volunteer. Continue until everyone has had a turn that wants one. (Speaker must continue talking until someone signals for the bear.)

  • Communication
