EVENT CALENDAR

The Getting Acquainted Web

Time Allowance: 25 Minutes
Equipment Needed: A ball of yarn.

1. There are several variations of the Web, and it can be used effectively as an icebreaker or as a closing activity.

2. Everyone sits or stands in a circle.

3. The leader introduces himself or herself by giving his or her name and telling the group about something he or she likes to do.

4. Holding onto one end of a ball of yarn, he or she then throws the ball to someone else in the circle.

5. That person introduces himself or herself, and then, still holding the end of the yarn, throws the ball to someone else.

6. Eventually a web is formed with each person in the circle holding a piece of the yarn.

7. When everyone has been introduced, the last person throws the ball back to the group leader, completing the web.

8. The leader then begins unraveling the web by repeating the name and information of the person who threw the ball to him or her, then throwing the ball back to that person.

9. Each player repeats the name and information of the person who originally threw them the yarn, so the whole process is reversed. If this unraveling proceeds in the right order, the web will be untangled and the yarn ball returned to the group leader.
