Composite Pictures
Time Allowance: 30-40 Minutes
Equipment Needed: Large pieces of paper, markers, pencils.
1. Divide students into groups of four to six depending on the size of the class. Each student draws a picture of an imaginary person. This person will be composed of the best features of each person in the group. Emphasize the great artistic drawing is not necessary. What is important is that the group members look for the pleasing features of the other group members. You may facilitate the process by either suggesting points that would include hairline, head shape, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, hair color, or by having the class brainstorm as many physical characteristics as they can think of. You may want to display the drawings when completed and identify those whose features were used.
2. Lead a discussion about the students, feelings during the activity as well as after the activity.
