Giants, Elves, Wizards
Time
Allowance: 25 Minutes
Equipment Needed: None
1.
Giants, Elves, Wizards is a creative version of Rock, Scissors,
Paper.
2. Introduce the characters
and have the players go through the motions a couple times to become familiar
with them. Raise hands
high over the head and make a fierce face for "Giants";
stick fingers behind head ear-style for "Elves"; thrust
arms down toward the ground as if you are smoting (wizards do
this) for "Wizards". Shout out the names as you do
the motions. The idea is that Giants beat Elves (probably because
they are bigger), that Elves beat Wizards (I cannot think of
any logical reason why Elves beat Wizards - they just do. If
you have someone literal in your group who wants to know, have
them think of a reason) and that Wizards beat Giants (probably
by smoting them).
3.
Once the players are familiar with the hand motions and order,
divide the group into two teams and designate a playing field
with a line down the middle and an end line on either side --
30-60 feet from the middle line to each end line.
4.
Each team will then huddle and secretly decide whether they will
be Giants, Elves, or Wizards and also make an alternate plan
in case of a tie the first time.
5. The two teams then
face each other across the center line. Together, they go through the whole "Giants, Elves, Wizards" routine
twice and then each team does the hand motion for and shouts out the name
of the creature they have chosen. The losing
team then turns around and runs for their end line with the winning
team in hot pursuit. Any member of the losing team tagged before
crossing the end line is considered captured and has to become
a member of the winning team.
6.
The game can be played repeatedly until one team is wiped out,
everyone is too tired to continue, or until everyone is on the
same team!
