RE: Advanced Academy Opportunities 2005-2006

The Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy and the Indiana Department of Education are pleased to announce four opportunities to maintain your School Safety Specialist certification for the 2005-2006 school year.

Option 1) Fall Advanced Training is scheduled for October 26-27, 2005 at the Indianapolis Sheraton Hotel and Suites. We anticipate another informative training with sessions directly focused on helping to make your schools safer. Participants planning to attend this training should register by faxing the attached Registration Form (Option 1) to our office no later than September 23rd, 2005. Those needing overnight lodging should return the enclosed Lodging Form (Lodging Option 1) to the Sheraton no later than September 23rd, 2005. Do not return the lodging form to IDOE.

We are also offering a special Site Survey course, How to Conduct Tactical Site Surveys for School Facilities, during this Advanced Training. This course will be similar to the course offered in June, and attendance for the entire two days is required. Space is limited for this training to maintain a quality trainer to trainee ratio, and to ensure participants have a meaningful experience. Please check the Site Survey box on your Fast Response Form and send in immediately to reserve your seat in this special session. Please see the attached How to Conduct Tactical Site Surveys for School Facilities information sheet for further details. Reservations for this training will be accepted in the order they are received.

Option 2) How to Conduct Tactical Site Surveys for School Facilities training will also be held on November 17-18, 2005 at the Indianapolis Sheraton Hotel and Suites. Reminder, space is limited for this training to maintain a quality trainer to trainee ratio, and to ensure participants have a meaningful experience. This training can be substituted for attendance at one of this year’s Advanced Trainings to maintain certification. Therefore, if you attend one of this year’s Site Survey Trainings, you are not required to attend Advanced Training during the 2005-2006 school year. Please see the attached How to Conduct Tactical Site Surveys for School Facilities information sheet for further details. Participants planning to attend this training should register by faxing the attached Registration Form (Option 2) to our office no later than October 25, 2005. Reservations for this training will be accepted in the order they are received. Please note that attendance for the entire two days is mandatory. Those needing overnight lodging should return the enclosed Lodging Form (Lodging Option 2) to the Sheraton no later than October 25, 2005. Do not return the lodging form to IDOE.

Option 3) Spring Advanced Training is scheduled for April 18-19, 2006 at the Indianapolis Sheraton Hotel and Suites. This will be the last opportunity for the 2005-2006 school year to maintain certification. Further details will be sent out to Specialists in early 2006, and also posted on our website at www.doe.in.gov/isssa/welcome.html. At this time, we do not plan to offer the Site Survey Training in 2006. Participants planning to attend this training should register by faxing the attached Registration Form (Option 3) to our office no later than March 17, 2006. Those needing overnight lodging should return the enclosed Lodging Form (Lodging Option 3) to the Sheraton no later than March 17, 2006. Do not return the lodging form to IDOE.

Option 4) The Academy recently sponsored a Site Survey Training in June, 2005. If you attended this program, you will not need to attend an Advanced Training during the 2005-2006 school year. The next Advance Training you will be required to attend in order to maintain certification will be Fall 2006. However, you are welcome to attend October 26-27 and/or April 18-19 if you wish.
