The next Advanced Level Training of the Academy will
be April 19-20, 2004, at the Sheraton Hotel, Keystone Crossing,
Indianapolis. Confirmation cards will be sent in late
March to those of you who have already sent registration forms.

if you have questions regarding registration or meals.
We wanted to remind you to reserve your hotel rooms
at the Sheraton. If you are driving a minimum of 90 minutes, please
reserve a room using the attached reservation form. Please
fax this form to the Sheraton. Sometimes, phoning a
reservation results in incorrect information to you. The forms are
also located on the Academy website: http://www.doe.in.gov/isssa.
We also now offer on-line registration for the Sheraton: You may
also make reservations online: Use

The session on April 19 & 20, 2004 is at the Sheraton
Hotel. We will begin registration/continental breakfast at 7:00
a.m. The session will conclude at 3:30 p.m.
We will again have early bird registration on Sunday
evening, April 18th from 7:00-8:00 p.m outside the Plaza Ballroom.
If you wish to bring guests to this conference, you
may bring one free guest per school district.
The guest registration form is attached. Guests will be responsible
for their own lodging, but you may use our discount at the Sheraton.
The Sheraton Guest reservation form is also located on the Academy
website.
Speakers at this conference will include:
Dr. Bernie James – Pepperdine
School of Law – “Updates on School Safety and the Law”.
Dr. James is a favorite of the Academy and returns for his annual
update.
The keynote speakers are Jamon Kent,
former superintendent of Springfield, Oregon schools. In his presentation
- Safe Schools and Crisis: Readiness, Response and Recovery
- he will focus on community lessons learned from May, 1998 shooting
at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon. Procedures and crisis
plans utilized when working with a community based team will be
discussed, as well as the immediate and long-term impact of school
violence on a community from the perspective of students, parents,
teachers, and administration.
The second keynote will be Dr. Marleen Wong
– National Director for the Schools Crisis Disaster
Recovery program of the National Center for
Child Traumatic Stress. Dr. Wong has developed school
crisis teams, mental health recovery programs, and training for
over 28 years for school districts and law enforcement personnel
in the USA, Canada, and Asia. She was the lead editor and one of
the authors of the Jane’s School Safety Handbook.
Dr. Wong has also worked with the faculty of Columbine High School
and was part of the crisis team in New York City after September
11, 2001.

CRU’s/Law Enforcement Credit:
Your confirmation card will indicate if you have requested CRU’s
or Law Enforcement credits. The forms must be picked up at the registration
desk at the end of the sessions on the 21st. We will not mail them
to you. CRU’s/Law Enforcement Credit may not be given retroactively.
IUPUI Graduate Credit – If
you enrolled in coursework for IUPUI, your grades will be mailed
to you in late May/early June. Questions for graduate credit should
