Revised Writing and Language Rubrics

With the adoption and implementation of the new K- 12 Indiana Academic Standards for English/language arts, a committee of Indiana teachers, plus representatives from the Indiana Department of Education and CTB McGraw-Hill, met to examine the rubrics and assure their alignment to the Academic Standards. Suggested revisions were presented to the Indiana State Board of Education for review and were subsequently approved for use. The rubrics are not new but have been amended to more clearly delineate the differences among the score points and to align the writing requirements with Indiana's Academic Standards.

Please be advised that the 3-5 and the 6-12 rubrics will be used to score student papers from the fall 2002 ISTEP+ test administration for Grades 3, 6, and 8 only.

Feel free to copy and distribute these rubrics to all English/language arts teachers and other interested staff members within your school corporation.
