New Program Proposal Guidelines
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) promotes diversity, imagination and innovation in instructional planning. Therefore, IDOE encourages the development of new programs to prepare professional educators to meet pressing social needs. A unit must assume responsibility for the quality of its programs. New program proposals may be submitted to the Office of Educator Effectiveness and Leadership at any time. Proposals will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. IDOE responses to proposals may take up to 90 days, but every attempt will be made to provide responses earlier when possible. Please refer to the New Program Proposal Assessment Rubric to ensure you are adequately addressing all evidences. Please submit all proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Career Specialist Permit (CSP) Pedagogy Provider Approval Process
The Career Specialist Permit is a new licensing option under REPA 3 for individuals interested in secondary (5-12) teaching. In order to be eligible for this permit, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0/4.0 GPA in a licensure content area, pass the appropriate CORE content exam, and provide verification of 6,000 hours of content-related nonteaching occupational experience within the past five (5) years. The initial permit is valid for two (2) years and can only be renewed after the completion of a State Board of Education-approved pedagogy component. The component may be offered by the school in which the person is teaching, a college or university, or another entity. The component must also begin within 30 days of accepting a teaching position.
The Indiana Department of Education will review all pedagogy component proposals prior to recommending approval to the board. Anyone interested in seeking approval for a pedagogy component should download both the CSP Pedagogy Provider Approval Request Cover Sheet and CSP Pedagogy Provider Approval Process – Instructions and Assessment Rubric (see below) and submit all required materials electronically (email) to Scott Bogan, Coordinator of Educator Preparation at email@example.com. Please contact Scott Bogan at firstname.lastname@example.org or (317) 232-9178 with questions.
