Presentation #3: Project Based ESL Instruction Using Technology: Sueño Americano 2: The price of a better life
Presenters: Amy Carrington and Amanda Carrington, Crawfordsville Community Schools
Description: This session provides an overview of incorporating project based learning and technology into ESL instruction to create a student produced film.  The presenters will demonstrate how students acquired English language proficiency through this project as well as enhanced skills in public speaking, teamwork, and community involvement.  Participants will view the film and receive packets related to preventing discrimination.

Presentation #5: Differentiating Instructions with Sanity and Success
Presenter: Dr. Rita Broadnax, Southwest School Corporation
Description:  This session will focus on what differentiation is and is not and provide participants with practical strategies and an effective framework for using differentiated instruction to promote academic learning and close achievement gaps.  The session will apply across the content areas and will emphasize brain compatible instructional strategies and best practices.  Participants will gain the ability to effectively differentiate instruction for all students and maintain teacher sanity.

Presentation #7: Collaborating to Improve English language learning
Presenters: Mary Theresa Seig and Karen Lybeck, Ball State University
Description:
This session will focus on increasing peer coaching between English as a Second Language (ESL) and content teachers in order to improve English language learning.  The goal is to increase the classroom teachers’ awareness of how to integrate language objectives for each student into content instruction.  Participants will practice developing integrated content and language objectives, brainstorm common obstacles to peer coaching, problem-solve, and develop ideas for implementing action plans.

Presentation #9: I'm New to ESL. What Shall I Do?
Presenters: Trish Morita Mullaney and staff, MSD of Lawrence Township
Description: This session will address instruction including instructional practices, best practices, and powerful approaches, collaboration including effective practices and professional development, and programming including the building level procedures needed to ensure the students' needs are being fully met. This interactive session will address all these issues and the questions you bring to the table. Join representatives from the ESL staff of MSD Lawrence Township for this engaging session of learning.

Presentation #10: The American Experience: Sheltered Instruction of American Literature / U.S. History
Presenter: Christine Foster, Warsaw Community High School
Description: This session will provide an overview of a secondary program designed to enable students to acquire English language skills while studying content based units.  The presenters will demonstrate how lessons were re-written and thematic units were adapted for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students using Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) and Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) strategies.

Presentation #13: English Proficiency Assessment
Presenters: Lauren Harvey, Indiana Department of Education and Jerry McCanna, CTB/McGraw-Hill
Description: This session will address the implementation of the new English proficiency assessment this spring.  Information on test administration, student scores, reports, accountability, and future plans will be addressed.  Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions related to the assessment.
