"IN THE CLASSROOM TOOLKIT" FROM THE NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION (NCELA)

NCELA has updated the K-6/Elementary section of its "In the Classroom Toolkit." The update includes information and strategies on oral language development for English language learners, who must learn both language and content alongside their native English speaking peers.  Oral language development involves not only teaching children to speak but to improve their ability to effectively communicate through guided practice.  It is important to teach children how to actively listen and to provide opportunities to engage in active listening.  To view the Toolkit updates, visit the NCELA website at http://www.ncela.gwu.edu/practice/itc/elementary.html.
