Indiana
is striving to raise standards and increase accountability
in public education. The Indiana General Assembly
has enacted school accountability legislation
that gives school corporations the opportunity
engage in school improvement efforts based on
the Baldrige Education Criteria for Performance
Excellence.
This
video interview segment with Larry Grau, Governor's
Education Policy Advisor, and Risa Regnier, Department
of Education Human Resources Director, gives an
overview of Indiana's participation in the national
Baldrige in Education Initiative (BiE IN), sponsored
by the National Alliance of Business and the American
Productivity and Quality Center; discusses how
a Baldrige based high performance model is helping
state policymakers translate stakeholder input
into a shared vision of education; explains the
relationship between the school accountability
legislation and the Baldrige Criteria; informs
the community about high performance training
within the State Department of Education; and
gives Indiana contact information concerning BiE
IN and Baldrige-based continuous improvement models
being successfully implemented in Indiana and
elsewhere.
