Professional Development

About IPLA Today!
As the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy looks to continually support its 1,700 graduates, it is turning to technology to provide a medium that is both convenient and inexpensive.  IPLA Today! is a web-based delivery system of professional development for Indiana's school leaders.  Realizing that the need for information on the part of educators is as diverse as it is large, the Academy is forging new ground by providing yet another source for cutting-edge information.

The Program!
In the IPLA tradition, the Academy has solicited the advice of practitioners for providing input into curricular aspects of the Academy's programs.  An Advisory Team of experts in the field of school leadership and technology has been assembled for planning the series of video programs, which will air throughout the school year. Along with current programming, IPLA will maintain a copy of the IPLA Today! programs on its web site for viewing at a later date.  This will also allow the Academy to place video copies of sessions and speakers for anyone to view at their convenience.

Your Participation!
Using video streaming technology, IPLA Today! will be available to anyone with internet access.  A free program from Real Networks entitled RealOne Player, is all that is needed to view this new and exciting program.  To view IPLA's promotional video in this format, click here.

Using RealOne Player and Accessing IPLA Today!

What is RealOne Player?
The Indiana Department of Education is offering special events and featured state-wide occasions in an audio and video format over the Internet. The technology is appropriately called streaming and the platform is known as RealVideo.

RealVideo operates by taking a video signal from any source and compressing it for delivery over the Internet. If you have the RealOne Player software installed on your computer, you can access these Internet-ready video files to view on your desktop computer. Since the Internet can deliver information to practically any location in the World, it is as easy to sit in an Indiana classroom watching the most recent State School Board meeting or be in Kakuda, Japan experiencing videos of spring-time in our fine state.

Check to see if you have RealOne Player
Click on the test video link below to see if you have RealOne Player installed on your computer. The link is to the video file of Dr. Reed's Welcome presentation for the IPLA Live! Digital Video Series taped during the summer of 2001. If you have RealOne Player installed, it will automatically start up and after a short time (depending on the speed of your Internet connection), you will see a video of Dr. Reed's welcome. Click here for the test video.

If you do not have the RealOne Player installed, or you have an older version, you will see some kind of error message and not Dr. Reed's video. At that point you will need to go to www.real.com and download their free version of RealOne Player. If you received an error message and you need to download the current version, click here to download RealOne Player. This program is free! Follow the steps to download the program.

When RealOne Player is downloaded and you have installed it, you are able to access videos in the Indiana Video Information Network (IVIN) as well as presentations of IPLA Today! You are now ready to view IPLA Today!
