PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES
AND AWARDS:
Francis Mustapha teaches biology at South Side High
School in Fort Wayne. "In the West African village
where I was born, no one could read or write," says
Mr. Mustapha. "When a school opened in a nearby
town and I was sent there," he continues, "it
changed my life! Those teachers, though imperfect,
opened up the world for me." Reflecting on the
course of events that brought him to where he is today,
Mr. Mustapha says: "I've been told that the story
of my journey from my village to my present activities
in DNA research is inspiring. Long after my own success
story ends, I hope there will be a continuing trail
of equally amazing human success stories achieved through
my help, confrontation, encouragement, and advocacy." Mr.
Mustapha does not believe that he cares more than other
teachers, but that his caring is supplemented by action.
One of Mr. Mustapha's dreams, "providing a building
for the new school in the village where I was born," will
soon be a reality thanks to the Milken Foundation Award. |
