At Brebeuf Jesuit
Preparatory School in Indianapolis, ninth-grade biology
teacher Sherry Annee begins each class with a joke,
riddle or cartoon to prepare her students for the dayís
lesson. Using a blend of student-centered, technology-based
and teacher-centered instructional methods, Ms. Annee engages
her students as active learners, providing them with the
time, space and techniques to learn from their experiences.
She created and maintains a biology Web site for her students
called "The Bio Zone" featuring class notes,
recommended reading, links to biology-related sites, and
a weekly schedule.
As co-chair of Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Schoolís
North Central Association Committee, Ms. Annee is working
on developing a school profile, identifying student improvement
goals, creating and implementing interventions, and conducting
professional development workshops for faculty and staff. |
