Alicia Harris, seventh-grade math teacher and team
leader at South Wayne Junior High School in Indianapolis,
is
a former Title I teacher whose technology-integrated
classroom is a model of innovative instruction and performance
assessment.
She motivates students to learn through hands-on activities
ranging from a math-based Polaroid photo scavenger hunt
to an annual "math-a-thon" to raise funds for
a local childrenís hospital. Ms. Harris frequently
shares her expertise on performance assessment with fellow
educators and serves on the schoolís Strategic
Planning Committee. As a Continuous School Improvement
Committee leader, she assists the math department in
identifying
future math needs and ensures that the curriculum is
properly aligned with state standards. An accomplished
singer,
Ms. Harris often performs the national anthem at Indiana
Pacer games.
