Today, the Indiana Department of Education named Susan Gargano the 2016 Indiana School Food Service Employee of the Year. Gargano is the Food Service Manager at Frank O’Bannon Elementary School in Hammond.
“Proper nutrition is essential to ensuring that students are prepared to learn and succeed in our classrooms,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. “On behalf of the Indiana Department of Education, I want to thank Susan and all of our food service workers for the work they do every day to support Hoosier students.”
For 19 years, the Indiana School Food Service Employee of the Year Award has provided formal recognition to school food service employees who contribute significantly to the health and learning capabilities of students. Nominees must demonstrate high-quality customer service, attitude, professionalism and teamwork.
Susan Gargano received a plaque from the Indiana Department of Education as well as a monetary award of $200 from the Indiana Nutrition Council during a ceremony at the Indiana School Nutrition Association’s Spring Seminar.
