Statement of Indiana Department of Education on Withdrawal of Senate Bill 416
INDIANAPOLIS - Senate Bill 416 was withdrawn this afternoon. In response to this development, Daniel Altman, Press Secretary for the Indiana Department of Education issued the following statement:
"The Superintendent is disappointed that Senate Bill 416 was withdrawn today. The bill would have improved and clarified accountability standards for all schools throughout Indiana. Community leaders, economic development experts, school administrators, teachers and parents have all expressed concerns with Indiana's current A-F system.
"Superintendent Ritz applauds the eleven members of the Senate Education Committee who passed this bill unanimously out of committee. As the session continues, Superintendent Ritz will work through the legislative process with Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate to improve accountability standards for all Indiana schools."
