The Indiana Department of Education Office of School and Community Nutrition is excited to announce 2017 SFSP workshops for all new and returning Indiana sponsors. These sessions will prepare your program staff or volunteers for effective and compliant program operation.

Returning Sponsor Workshop:  Offered in each region of the state, these training sessions provide participants with the latest program information and cover all the main aspects of successful SFSP  management. Ideally, the Kitchen Manager or Site Supervisor who is involved with daily program implementation would be the best representative to attend this workshop. Sponsors having had significant SFSP review findings in the past, experienced changes in staffing, or skipped a year of participation are required to attend. While most sessions target all sponsor types, a few are geared only towards special types of sponsors. Please make your selection accordingly.

New Sponsor Workshop: This session takes place in the Conference Center of the Indiana State Government Center South Building in downtown Indianapolis. It is limited to organizations that have never operated the SFSP. The training will provide a general overview of the program, including sponsorship requirements and application process. Attendees must be pre-qualified for program eligibility prior to registering. Additional local training sessions may be available to new program sponsors, contingent on the availability of our staff. For more information contact: Tina Skinner, SFSP Specialist, at tskinner@doe.in.gov (link sends e-mail).

  • Who should attend the New Sponsor Workshop: The person(s) in charge of the actual day-to-day SFSP operation of your site. State Agency recommends two (2) individuals from each agency. Due to the limited space, early registration is recommended.
  • Bring along a valid picture ID: A security screening is conducted at the entrance of each training location. In order to pass the security check, be prepared to present a valid picture ID.
  • Workshop participation is open to everybody: Although completing a free training is a mandatory prerequisite for all new sponsors, it does not obligate an agency to sponsorship nor does it render automatic approval from the State Agency.

Finally, keep in mind the following information:

  • Start times for all workshops are listed as local time (Eastern or Central Time) where the training is scheduled to take place.
  • For training sessions scheduled at Indiana Government Center South Building, prepare to arrive early to find a place to park, walk to the Conference Center and pass the required security check.
  • In case of poor road conditions due to hazardous weather, workshops may be cancelled and enrolled participants notified via email.
