Business and Marketing Education Conference
A New Direction is the theme
of the Business and Marketing Education conference to be held
November 17-18 at the Adam's Mark Airport Hotel in Indianapolis.
A copy of the program and a registration form are enclosed.
Several special sessions have been planned for marketing coordinators.
Ken Kaser, author for Sports and Entertainment books, will be
hosting three sessions on Saturday morning. These sessions will
deal with Sports and Entertainment Marketing and International
Marketing. We have exciting new opportunities with Hospitality
and Tourism and Lodging Management. These industries need partnerships
with schools. Susan Land will be sharing her experiences with
USA Today. Dr. Greg Valentine, USI, will also be presenting an
International Trade curriculum on Friday morning
In addition to all these opportunities, Judy Commers and Dr.
Rod Davis, Ball State, will be facilitating our Friday afternoon
session for marketing teachers. You will receive a copy of our
new Internet Projects and a multimedia CD presentation from MarkED
along with other materials that Indiana teachers will be sharing
with you. You won't want to miss this opportunity to network
with other teachers, visit exhibits, and attend some exciting
presentations.
Be sure to contact the Adam's Mark Airport Hotel requesting your
hotel reservations by October 13. We look forward to seeing you
November 17-18. You won't want to miss this exciting and informative
conference.
Barb
Beadle Elected To NBEA Board
Barbara Beadle, Program Specialist for Business and Marketing
Education was elected to a three-year term on the National Business
Education Association Board in May. A special thank you to all
of the NBEA members in Indiana who provided support to Barb.
She is also serving on the NBEA Curriculum Committee. This group
will be reviewing the NBEA National Standards for Business Education
to decide what changes need to be made.
Barb also serves on the MarkED Board of Trustees and will serve
as the Chairperson this year. She recently completed a term as
President of the National Association of Supervisors of Business
Education. "Serving on national Boards and being involved
in national initiatives in Business and Marketing gives me an
opportunity to see what other states are doing and where business
and marketing are moving at the national level. It also allows
me to provide better direction and leadership for Business and
Marketing programs in Indiana, " Barb said.
Entrepreneurship

Tip of
the Month
Try this simple tip to help you project a good first impression.
Notice the color of a person's eyes as you shake hands. Why it
works? You'll gain strong eye contact in a way that shows you're
interested in what the person has to say.
New
Faces In Marketing Education
Please welcome the following new teachers and some "old"
ones who have changed jobs:
- Kerry Bennett, Rensselaer. Kerry will
be the DECA sponsor and will be teaching a first-year marketing
class. She is a graduate in Business with an insurance emphasis
from Indiana State University.
- Cory Schultz, Wawasee. Cory replaces Kerry
Murphy who will be full-time ICE coordinator this year. Cory
will serve as DECA sponsor and will be teaching the first-year
marketing classes.
- Nat McCann, South Bend Riley. Nat is a
recent graduate from Ball State University and replaces Jim Fenters
who retired this year. Dwight Mood will also be assisting Nat
in the first-year marketing classes.
- Amanda Graham, Frankfort High School.
This is a brand-new marketing program. Amanda is a BSU graduate
and will be teaching several marketing classes and sponsoring
DECA.
- Kris Miller, Ebbertt Education Center.
Kris replaces Becky Wimmer who moved to the high school. She
will be teaching a two-hour marketing class at the career center
including Lodging Management.
- Charlene Bredemeyer, Bellmont High School.
Charlene is a former business teacher turned marketing coordinator.
She will be teaching first-year marketing and co-op classes and
sponsor DECA.
- Amiee Schmetzer and Stan Wilkison, Blue
River Career Center. Amiee moves from Rensselaer to Blue River
CC. She was married this year and her husband, Jim, is a pilot
based out of Indianapolis. Amiee will be teaching ½ time
marketing and ½ time business. Stan taught at Greensburg
HS last year, is a BSU graduate, and recently married. He also
will be teaching ½ time marketing and ½ time business.
- Steve Knudson, Delta High School. Steve
is a recent graduate from BSU and hails from New York. He will
be teaching first-year marketing classes and sponsor DECA. Steve
also attended the Marketing Academy this summer.
- Evansville. Many of the schools in Evansville
have expanded their marketing programs so much that they will
be having one individual at each school who will be coordinating
co-op and another teacher who will teach the first-year classes.
Although I do not have all the names of these new teachers, we
congratulate Evansville on a great job of promoting their marketing
programs and wish them well this year.
- Nicole Mayes, New Albany. Nicole moves
from Prosser School of Technology to New Albany. She will be
teaching Economics and sponsoring a DECA chapter.
Please join me in welcoming these individuals
to the marketing family. Offer your assistance and make them
feel welcome! If there are other changes that you know, please
contact Barb Beadle.
