The Business and Marketing Education Conference will be held November 13-14 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Indianapolis. A special session for Marketing Coordinators has been planned on November 13 from 1:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. This session will include the following: presentation of the Marketing Foundations curriculum document, which includes a three-ring binder and all curriculum materials for the first year marketing course; a presentation by Phil Lewis, Gemini Innovations, on the Enterprise Donut Shop, a great simulation to use in your marketing classes; update on DECA; update on new national curriculum framework and other issues affecting marketing in Indiana. Information has been sent to all curriculum directors and principals asking that all marketing coordinators attend. Curriculum documents will be distributed only at this conference or through a specially arranged meeting through Barb Beadle. All future updates to the curriculum manual will be free. There are also a number of other excellent sessions that may be of interest to you. The Friday morning session Trading Around The World is an excellent supplement for marketing programs. The Global Economics course, a presentation by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the Equifax presentation are all excellent resources for your marketing classes. Please plan to join us for this fun-filled, information packed session! This session takes the place of our regional workshops that we normally have each year. This is a required meeting for all marketing coordinators! Entrepreneurship Bonus Activity A bonus activity, Just What is Profit?, is enclosed for your use in your marketing classes. This activity came from EntrepreNews & Views. Curriculum Development Now that the new Marketing Foundations curriculum has been completed, we will begin curriculum development for the following courses during the 1998-99 school year: Marketing Advanced, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Fashion Merchandising, and Sports, Recreation, and Entertainment Marketing. We are selecting individuals now. Please contact Barb Beadle immediately if you are interested in serving. Marketing Course Titles & CIPS The new marketing course titles are now official. If you are using titles for your courses other than the ones listed below, you need to make the changes no later than the 2000-2001 school year. The new course titles with CIP codes, Classification of Instructional Programs, is listed below. Please use these CIP code numbers when reporting your students for the September vocational count to the Department of Workforce Development.

New Faces In Marketing Education Please welcome the following new teachers to marketing education: Jason Dowling, Westville High School. Jason is the only business teacher at this school but is interested in starting a DECA chapter. He has 22 students in his first year marketing class. Jason has a marketing degree from Michigan. Jean Gosney, Warsaw High School. Jean will be teaching the first year marketing classes and serving as sponsor of DECA. Troy Simpson, John H. Hinds Vocational Center. Troy moves from Bellmont High School and replaces Celeste Anthony who moved to Michigan after marrying Randy Luthringer. Anita Miller, Bellmont High School. Anita has a number of years experience working in business but is brand new to marketing education. Paul Woodling, Arsenal Technical HS. Paul officially replaces Dave Russell as the coordinator, although he has been assisting Dave for the last few years. Becky Kuehl, Union City HS. Becky will be assisting Tom Johnson by teaching the first year classes. Becky is also one of our Academy members this year. Scott Schaffer, Bosse High School. Scott has been working in a family owned business and is new to marketing education. Bobbi Jo Cole, Reitz High School. Bobbi replaces Ray Beadle who retired last year. Bobbi was a former student in the Retiz program. She also is an Academy member. Mike Duncan, Castle High School. Mike officially begins a brand new program at Castle this year. He is also an Academy member. Tami DePriest, Scottsburg/Austin High School. Tami is responsible for an ICE program at both schools but will be actively involved in DECA.
