PLTW Dual Credit Opportunities (National)

  • Arkansas Tech University - Secondary school students in Arkansas may receive college credit in Arkansas Tech University's Mechanical and Electrical Engineering programs for eligible PLTW® courses: Introduction to Engineering Design™ (IED) = 2 credits for Engineering Graphics (MCEG 1002), Principles of Engineering™ (POE) = 2 credits for Introduction to Engineering (MCEG 1012 or ELEG 1012) Students are eligible to receive these credits by completing each PLTW® course with an average of "B," by having been enrolled in a PLTW® certified high school, by scoring a 70% or higher on the PLTW® college credit exam, and by meeting Arkansas Tech University academic eligibility requirements.
  • Duke University - Duke University will honor transcripts from other National Affiliates, as appropriate (decided in a manner consistent with existing administrative and faculty review procedures), for students who have completed PLTW® Program courses in a PLTW® certified school, have a “B” average in PLTW® courses, have received a 70% or higher on the PLTW® college credit exam, and who have registered at Duke. Duke will work with the national College Board to establish Advanced Placement credit for PLTW® courses taught in North Carolina. Until AP credit is established, Duke will work with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to establish Honors status of PLTW® courses in N.C.

  • Milwaukee School of Engineering - Secondary school students from a PLTW® certified school may apply to MSOE for transcripted college credit for the PLTW® courses POE, IED, DE, CIM, and CEA. In addition to having attended a PLTW® certified school, the student must have an average of 85% or better for the course, have a completed course portfolio, have a grade of 70% or better on the PLTW® college exam, and pay the required tuition. The student will receive 3 quarter credits for each of the courses taken that meets these requirements. MSOE will accept transcripted credit from other Affiliate Universities for these courses. Substitution of a particular PLTW® course for a course in a particular program will depend on the program curriculum in force at the time of admittance to MSOE. This decision will be made by the program director.
  • New Hampshire Technical Institute - Secondary students who have taken PLTW® courses and who have a "B" average in those courses have two options for receiving college credit at New Hampshire Technical Institute. First, an articulation agreement is in place that allows up to three (3) credits (IED) for Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology majors and three (3) credits (DE) for Electrical Engineering Technology majors. The second option at all campuses of the New Hampshire Community Technical College System is the Running Start program. This program allows students to earn elective college credits for selected courses taken during their high school career. With this option, students can earn up to fifteen elective credits (15) for PLTW® coursework (IED, POE, DE, EDD, and CIM).
  • Old Dominion - Secondary school students in Virginia may receive college credit in Old Dominion University's Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Engineering Technology programs for eligible PLTW® courses: Any PLTW® Course = Engineering Fundamentals Engn 110, Any PLTW® Course = Engineering Fundamentals Engn 111, Computer Integrated Manufacturing™ = TBA, Digital Electronics™ = TBA. Students can receive credit by completing each PLTW® course with an average of "B," by having been enrolled in a PLTW® certified high school, by scoring a 70% or higher on the PLTW® college credit exam, and by meeting Old Dominion University academic eligibility requirements. Note: *Additional, possible credit scenarios are to be determined.
  • Oregon Institute of Technology - Secondary school students in Pennsylvania from PLTW® certified schools may apply for Pennsylvania State University college credit for three PLTW® courses (IED 4 credits, POE 1 credit, & DE 4 credits). Penn State requires students to receive at least an 85 percent average in the PLTW® course, score 70 or above on the end of year college credit exam, and meet academic eligibility requirements for a two-year engineering technology major (Electrical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology).
  • Penn State - Students can earn credit at Penn State for the PLTW courses they successfully complete. The credit is granted in either Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering Technology. Project Lead The Way college credit cannot be applied to an Engineering degree at Penn State. Schools must be PLTW Certified in order for students to be eligible for college credit.
  • Rochester Institute of Technology - High school students from a PLTW® certified school can get a head start on a college career and add prestige to their admissions applications by receiving college credits from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). These are transcripted credits and are eligible to be transferred to other universities.
  • San Diego State University - Secondary school students may receive a total of three SDSU College of Engineering credits for any of the PLTW® courses [IED, POE, CIM, CEA and DE]; by completing each course with an average of "B," by scoring 70 or above on the college credit exam, by being enrolled in a PLTW® certified school, and by meeting college enrollment requirements for the BS programs.
