The 2004 four-member Supermileage Team has grown to 11 - membership is by invitation only. And, enrollment in tech classes is skyrocketing. Jim Edwards is especially thrilled with the team's - and the tech department's - success. Which means Project Excellence is also a success. "When I look back on my career nothing has brought me as much satisfaction as what you see right here," he says. "This is the future of this country." |

RHS joins area schools in Project Lead the Way
Description:
Palladium-Item - Richmond, IN., Indiana Project Lead the Way is reporting a 45 percent increase in participation from 2006. Richmond High School is joining Centerville High School, which already is participating in the program, as a first-time participant in the national non-profit program providing engineering and technology education for students in middle and high schools. Richmond High School has 75 students enrolled in three sections this year. The increase statewide puts Indiana first in the nation for schools adding the program, which was implemented in 2001 to increase the number and quality of engineers and engineering technologists. |

Training program offered to Seymour industrial employees
Description:
Seymour High School pilots the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council program. “Bringing the MSSC class to the high school level,” Sexton commented, “will be a way to get the students’ resume off the pile of other resumes. Having the certification will let the employer know right away what skills a person has. And this (MSSC) certification is recognized across the nation.” Sexton’s class is a test preparation of gearing up for the certification at a later date, he said. |

IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational) 2007
Description:
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) builds partnerships with high school students and adult professional engineers to create a unique hands-on experience for youth. Each year, teams have 6 weeks to design, build and program a robot. At the 2007 IRI the team won the “Judges Award” for the team’s community outreach, student growth and education outreach projects. |

Robotics team ready to rack 'n' roll

Thirty-six teams from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Canada will compete. Talent and a little intrigue will rock the Recreation Center at Kettering University on Saturday, Sept. 22, as high school students jam to loud music and amaze the crowd with their skills in technology and engineering during the Kettering Kickoff robotics competition. |

The programs are: history, philosophy, English, Spanish, French, political science, sociology, business administration, manufacturing and industrial technology, nursing, agriculture education, industrial technology education and agriculture. |

Clark, Floyd teachers learn the art of competitive robotics at three-day Ivy Tech workshop

New Albany Tribune - It took only three eight-hour days for Martin Wright to learn how to build a functioning robot. But the lessons learned in the three-day workshop could be benefiting Wright’s students for years to come. “They’re getting $5,000 worth of equipment for free,” said Daniel Ward, who is the chair of the design technology program at Ivy Tech in Kokomo. “We came down here with a van full of materials and we’re going home with nothing but our luggage.” Funded by an Indiana Department of Workforce Development grant, Ward and his brother Luke, an instructor at the Kokomo campus, have been offering the workshop to teachers all over the state. Martin Wright, Terry Hunter and Fred Finch were among the 16 teachers who participated in the workshop at Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg. |
