The Department of Education is now accepting applications for
the
Improving Literacy Through School Libraries
Program Grant
The Department of Education announced today,
February 10, 2006 that the application package for the
2006 Improving Literacy Through School Libraries program competition
is now available. Application
information is available at: www.ed.gov/programs/lsl/applicant.html.
Approximately 19 million dollars will be available
for funding, and an estimated 100 grants will be awarded under
this competition. The
deadline for applications this year is April
11, 2006.
It is important to note that applicants must
use the Department's electronic applications (e-Applications)
system to apply. The Department's e-Applications Web site
is available through the e-Grants
Web site e-grants.ed.gov and
the competition application is available on this Web site. There
is a demo available to assist new users. At the e-grants.ed.gov
home page click on the "Continue" button at the bottom
and then "e-Applications" at
the menu at the top. A drop down menu will appear. Click
on "Demo" and you will be provided with assistance in
using this electronic application process.

Only schools meeting The U.S. Department of
Education specific requirements based on Census Poverty data
